Bravo Concealment 3.0 Double Magazine Pouch Review | regular guy guns

We’ve covered the benefits of standard-capacity magazines in the past. More ammunition on tap is always better when dealing with a violent encounter. However, magazine sizes can be limited by practical considerations. Sure, one could carry a 33-round magazine in their holstered EDC GLOCK pistol, but that would be eminently cumbersome. Plus people would laugh at you and you’d become a meme. And yes, magazines can fail. So what is a regular guy or girl going out into the world to do? Simple – carry multiple magazines. And no, jamming them into a pocket isn’t the solution. You’ll need a dedicated magazine carrier or pouch.

Enter the Bravo Concealment 3.0 Double Magazine Pouch…

Much like with a dedicated firearm holster, a magazine holster puts your pistol magazines right where you need them, and makes them easily accessible. You don’t have to rummage around a pocket or a bag, and then worry about orienting them properly for a reload. The magazines are there, on your belt, ready to go. And a reload is bound to be required at the worst possible time. A (thankfully-rare) bad magazine can cause a firearm to jam, or the mag can run dry – and it’s not going to happen while the opposition is also reloading. This isn’t the staged warfare of old, this is a modern day violent encounter, where there are no rules. Having a few spare magazines ready to go in a quality magazine holster can save your life.

Primary Arms

Of course known for their wide range of firearm holsters, of which I have two, Bravo Concealment offers a selection of magazine holsters and pouches. What arrived for me was a sample of their 3.0 variant of the double magazine pouch. Standard disclaimer – these were provided to me from Bravo at no charge for this review.

Features

Made of Kydex, the Bravo Concealment 3.0 Double Magazine Pouch comes standard with 1.5” outside-the-waistband belt loops, and nifty adjustable retention “tabs” built right into the body of each individual pouch. The pouch also sports Bravo Concealment’s new 3.0 design cues and styling, blending it nicely with their latest firearm holsters, if that’s important to you.

The pouch is also formed into a curved shape, in order for it to fit snugly against one’s body, for easy and comfortable concealment.

The major components are secured with robust and beefy screws, which is a nice touch. I personally like over-engineering. In a weird way it looks cool and also inspires confidence.

The Bravo branding is a nice touch.

Using The Bravo Concealment 3.0 Magazine Pouch

The features are one thing – but how does it run? Well, it’s a magazine pouch – it either works or it doesn’t. Being a Bravo component, I expected it to work, and it did, amazingly.

Out of the box, the retention is set tight. I loaded up two (with ammunition) double-stack 9mm Heckler & Koch VP9 magazines, and proceeded to shake the pouch vigorously while upside down for a few minutes. The dog looking at me funny was the only negative result. The magazines did not fall out or even move. With a little tug, they came free. I repeated the process with two double-stack 17 round 9mm GLOCK magazines, with the same result. The dog was still gone, though. With the same tug, they came free. In an emergency situation, you’ll be pulling with great force, so “too much retention” isn’t a problem. From the get-go, it’s just right – you shouldn’t need to adjust it, even though you can.

Caveat: single-stack magazines are too thin for proper retention in this magazine pouch. So if you have a subcompact 9mm such as a GLOCK 43 or Smith & Wesson M&P Shield, you’ll have to seek other options – though if you’re looking to carry more ammo, you’re most likely carrying a full-size pistol that takes double-stack magazines anyways.

I also tried GLOCK 30 .45 ACP double-stacked magazines, and they are way too fat for the carrier. I’m used to that though – the G30 is the neglected stepchild of the GLOCK family and no one makes anything for it.

Anyways, in daily use, the magazine pouch rides comfortably on your hip, and after a time, you don’t notice it’s there. It’s that well-built. I ran through some magazine change drills with it, and experienced no issues. Magazines on your weak side hip, drop empty mag, change, and boom. Quick and painless.

Conclusions

The Bravo Concealment 3.0 Magazine Pouch is a superb product, as would be expected from the firm. With tight retention and sturdy construction, this is a must-have for anyone who carries a firearm with them, whether it’s for work, or personal protection. Having multiple magazines readily accessible is a must, even under mundane circumstances, and we’re certainly not living in mundane times.

Train, practice, and carry a few extra magazines on your belt – this exceptional lttle pouch rocks.
